ABOUT THE PATTERN
The 'Malika Scarf' is a simple, rolled scarf worked in stockinette stitch, back and forth on straight needles - no pattern repeat, no complicated techniques. The natural rolling edges of stockinette stitch, usually seen as a challenge, are the whole point here: the edges roll in on their own, creating a narrow, twisted scarf full of texture. The name is a tribute to my friend Malika, who knitted me an early version of this exact scarf as a birthday gift more than 20 years ago - and it took me far too many years to understand how it was meant to be worn.
That makes the pattern ideal as a first knitting project, while the simple construction leaves plenty of room to style the scarf in different ways - wrapped several times around the neck, draped loosely, or worn as a slim accessory. The 'Malika Scarf' is also a perfect scrap-yarn project: it works beautifully in any color combination, and you're free to mix yarn weights for a completely different look. The suggested yarn and gauge are therefore just a guideline - not a strict rule.
Please note that this is a knitting pattern and not a readymade piece.
